Lincoln Canine Society

38 entries.  (the show secretary informed me that this entry was the highest ever for cocker spaniels at this show)

Thank you for the lovely entry.  Many decisions were “splitting hairs” with movement on the day being the deciding factor in otherwise equally worthy exhibits.

The critiques were sent to Dog World & Our Dogs on the 18th December.

Fendrove For Sure & Jacmist Treacle Tart with Alcyone

6 months old black male. Still very much a baby.  Balanced head, tight dark eye with gentle expression. Correct length of neck leading into fine shoulders, straight front with good forehand construction, deep chest and well sprung ribs, short coupled, correct rear assembly, ample bone for age. Moved happily and true with good reach, drive and level topline. Close decision between 1 & 2.  Best Puppy

Jacmist Treacle Tart with Alcyone

8 months old orange & white bitch.  Very cockery and cobby. Balanced head, dark eye, lovely pigmentation, sweet expression. Good length of neck, fine sloping shoulders, straight front, good forehand construction with deep chest & body, short body and couplings. Correct rear assembly which she used to move with great animation but somewhat erratically around the ring. Very happy young lady.

Helenwood Wiggle Dance & Annilann Miss Isle

Gold bitch of 17 months. Litter sister to BoB. Balanced feminine head, with beautiful soft expression.  Correct length of neck, fine shoulders, correct forehand, deep chest, good bone and feet. Short coupled, correct rear assembly, would like a bit more slope to the croup as tail set a little high, moved true, happily and with good forward reach and drive.

Annilann Miss Isle

15 month old blue bitch. Good make and type. Balanced head, dark eyes, correct chiselling, muscular neck of correct length, fine shoulders, straight front, deep chest, well ribbed, correctly angulated fore and aft, well muscled, stylish mover.

Merryhaze Blue Moon over Helenwood & Jacmist Parker

Nice sized blue roan dog of 15 months.  Very cockery and masculine without being over done, of good type. Balanced head with gentle expression, ample neck, good return of upper forearm, well laid back shoulders, short body with good ribs, had lovely substance, well angulated hind quarters, short hocks, moved powerfully, fluidly and true maintaining a level topline. Pushed hard in the challenge but movement suffered as distracted by kennel mate. 

Jacmist Parker

Well grown black & white ticked male of 8 months. Masculine head, gentle expression, correct length of neck, fine shoulders, straight front, good return of upper arm, deep chest, ample rib, correct rear assembly, moved purposefully, correctly and happily whilst keeping a level topline.

He's My Moonlight Magic at Shannakeil

17 months old black male, full of quality. Masculine, well balanced head, melting expression, tight dark eye, correct length of neck leading into fine shoulders, straight front, correct forehand, deep chest and body, good topline, well sprung rib, short coupled, correct rear assembly, wide rump, good thigh, lots of substance, short hocks, animated on the move with good reach and drive and a non stop wagging tail. Well presented. Pleased to award Best Of Breed. Went onto Group 1 & Best In Show. Congratulations.

Best In Show Critique " BIS went to the smart black Cocker Helenwood Innovation. Handsome head, gentle, yet masculine in expression. Good neck set into sloping shoulders. Deep chested with sturdy bone. Compact body shape. Just 18 months but impressive and moved around the ring with great style. Presented in fine order with gleaming coat." Norma Inglis

2 ½ year old black male. Balanced head, soft expression, adequate length of neck, would prefer better shoulder placement, correct forehand, well sprung rib, short coupled, correct rear assembly.  Moved happily with purpose and drive, needed a bit more forward reach, however won on overall picture.

3 year old up to size orange roan male. Very cockery. Judged this dog against different dogs previously and I haven’t changed my mind about him.  Balanced masculine head, good eye, good reach of neck, good bone, neat tight feet, well sprung rib, short loins, well rounded quarters, correct rear angulation, well muscled. Powerful correct movement. Reserve Best Of Breed.

3 year old black male. Balanced head with kind expression, good reach of neck, fine shoulders, straight front, well off for bone, good ribs, rounded quarters, correct angulation fore and aft, good outline, powerful mover whose handler couldn’t let him do justice to it.
