As caring and conscientious breeders we have to ensure that our dogs and any puppies we may have at home are not exposed to infectious diseases and therefore for reasons of health (not to mention time & security), visits to us are limited to potential puppy owners on our waiting list.
We receive a considerable number of telephone calls/emails per week regarding puppies. Our pups and our dogs live in our family home, as part of the family and it simply is not feasible to have an un-restricted visiting policy due to the risk of infection being brought into our home, for security reasons and due to time constraints.
We have a duty of care to our dogs, their puppies and their would-be owners and as part of this process, we MUST ensure that infections are not brought into the home and therefore visiting is limited as this limits the risk of infection being transmitted. It is especially important to note that some canine diseases (especially Parvo) can survive in the environment for months. Living in a carpeted home it is not an option to bleach and disinfect every surface between visitors!
Would-be owners on our waiting list are welcome to visit our puppies and us when our pups are 3 – 4 weeks old (we arrange a "visiting" day) and then again; at the time, the pups are ready to leave us.
At the time of visits we do ask would-be owners to follow some basic hygiene rules to help ensure the safety of our babies.
At the time of the first visit we regret to advise that in an attempt to control the risk of infection, it is not possible to meet the father of the litter (if he happens to be one of our own boys). Our other dogs are not mixing with newly delivered Mum’s or young & vulnerable puppies because they enjoy an active country lifestyle and may inadvertently introduce infection from the environment.
However, at a subsequent visit, if we own the father to the litter he will be bathed, clean, and ready for “inspection”!
I regret that we are unable to accommodate visits from general enquirers who are not on our waiting list for a puppy. Thank you for your understanding.
